Lowe’s Summer Internship Program
Lowe's 2019 Summer Internship Program offers challenging assignments to undergraduate and graduate students, enhancing their understanding of the retail business world through valuable, hands-on experience with a FORTUNE® 50 company. The summer internship program begins with orientation in late May and concludes in early August. All internships are paid and housing is available for those that qualify. This role has potential for conversion into a full-time position for those that successfully complete the internship and upon candidate's graduation.

The internship will consist of a project-based assignment to broaden learning, experience, and organizational knowledge and business acumen. We are looking for people driven by potential. Command Center Internship
Lowe’s Command Center manages product movement and company communication during emergency events. We also manage significant pre-staged bulk inventory and pre-staged trucks by type of event. Command Center provides media interviews and interaction with governmental partners such as, FEMA, DHS, NOORAD/NORTHCOMM, State EME Departments and any other major disaster partners. Daily forecast information is distribution widely throughout management for upcoming events to allow proper time for preparation.

The Command Center intern will design a deliverable process to improve Lowe’s Emergency response results for multiple jurisdictions during event activation. There is constant need for improvements to assist stores and communities during emergency activations. In the event of Command Center activation, will serve as a response resource for market requests and daily conference calls. Also assist with staffing coverage to support store operations .

This internship will be located at our Wilkesboro Corporate campus, with the possibility of spending some time at our main Mooresville campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Exposure to the tactical management of Command Center activities related to the disaster/emergency events, ensuring an optimal flow of inventory, services, and communications with Lowe’s stores and distribution modes. Assist Supervisor in the handling of day to day response activities and analysis as directed by the Command Center Manager/Director and work to provide immediate support. During events, if needed, assisting in the management of the activated Command Center, and be able to provide coverage to ensure continuous support for Lowe’s customers.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management from an accredited university with expected graduation dates of August 2019, December 2019 or May 2020
  • Proficient in MS Office Programs
  • Strong oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with a high level of flexibility
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and/or responsibilities
  • Analytical skills
  • Data gathering and reporting

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minor in Business Administration
  • 3.0 or above GPA
  • Relevant internship experience and/or other related work experience, such as a leadership role in student/campus organizations, volunteer, etc.
  • Previous retail experience
