I. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Adhere to safety policies and procedures, create a culture of safety as our first priority

• Train, mentor, and support Transportation Supervisors and Transportation Team Members; create training guides as needed

• Work as the Lowe’s regional subject matter expert for all matters dealing with transportation initiatives or questions

• Hire employees capable of working in a team and multi-tasking in a hectic environment

• Set expectations for team performance (Customer service, Data entry and transportation documentation accuracy, Leadership, Initiative, Quick decision-making, Team player, Ask questions and reach out to peers in network, Driven)

• Monitor overall freight costs for RDC and adjust where appropriate

• Identify transportation savings by researching lane and cost savings

• Work with operations to reduce transportation costs

• Work with carrier partners on on-time service, lane rates and vendor pickups

• Use JDA TMS system

• Monitor outstanding freight payment reports and work with Freight Pay to ensure carrier payments

• Ensure on-time service to stores; managing carriers by requiring improvement actions as needed

• Ensure inbound loads are being picked up in timely fashion

• Work with vendors to use correct carriers to reduce transportation costs; troubleshoot issues by contacting vendors

• Support DC Planning and Operations through yard/trailer pool management, and by ensuring trailers in right place at right time

• Create backhaul savings by partnering with carriers and vendors to implement savings opportunities

• Partner with peers and Corporate Transportation to identify key initiatives / best methods

III. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Proven record for complying with safety requirements, and ability to build a culture of safety among subordinates and peers

• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience

• Previous transportation or supply chain industry experience

• Excellent written communication skills and high level of professionalism

• Successfully manages multiple tasks simultaneously in a stressful environment

• Can make solid decisions quickly based on limited information

• Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations

• Familiarity with Supply Chain Management principles and Transportation industry

• Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change

• Capable of managing time and budgets

• Takes initiative and uses analytical, technical, and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex problems

• Demonstrated team-building skills

• Ability to build rapport and trust with others

• Resolves conflicts quickly and fairly

• Highly motivated to the team’s success, as well as own success

• High school diploma or GED equivalent with at least 4-6 years demonstrated increasing responsibilities in a transportation or distribution center environment

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

• College degree in Transportation or Supply Chain Management

• Bi-lingual skills helpful
