The VP of Merchandising, Appliances is responsible for leading and executing an omni-channel merchandising strategy that delivers a compelling value proposition for both traditional and new customer segments. This position works closely with cross-functional teams including vendors, customer insights, data analytics, sourcing, marketing, pricing/promotions, digital, technology, operations, product development, and other corporate functions to ensure that the product assortment supplied to the customer is differentiated and will drive sales and revenue growth. This position builds brand equity and profitability by maintaining a deep understanding of the home improvement customer’s current and future needs and ensuring that those needs are met best at Lowe’s. The VP of Merchandising is responsible to select, develop, and engage high performing and diverse individuals and teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies business opportunities and threats based on careful and timely analysis of trends, consumer research, competitors, and vendor relationships, and merchandises stores accordingly
  • Delivers profitable product categories while ensuring methods and results are in the best interest of the entire organization
  • Translates innovative merchandising strategies into actions that drive revenue growth and create a differentiated market position that fulfills unmet customer needs
  • Articulates the value proposition and merchandising vision to his/her team, facilitates the achievement of short and long term goals, and ensures overall support of the merchandising strategy
  • Ensures profitability by driving a customer-focused merchandising strategy through management of merchandise selection and assortment planning
  • Directs the development of customer-relevant assortment plans that align with a multi-channel merchandising strategy, support seasonal merchandising plans for both store and ecommerce outlets, and utilize sought-after home improvement brands
  • Ensures the financial success of their area by meeting or exceeding financial targets (sales, gross margin, gross margin return on investment, inventory turn goals, etc.)
  • Maintains accountability for merchandise division performance, recommends revisions to the merchandise plan/forecast based on sound analysis and ensures corrective actions are implemented
  • Drives compliance and standards with process, policies, and tools
  • Recognizes trends and developments with demands of the consumer and influences strategies that are unique to Lowe’s, appeal to the customer base, and create positive business impacts
  • Converts consumer insights and research, historical data, sales data, and principles of segmentation into clear plans with achievable objectives that build brand equity, consumer relativity, and contribute positively to business
  • Collaborates with a network including merchants, store operations, vendors, marketing, store planning and environment, direct merchandise planning and initiatives, merchandising operations, customer experience strategy, international merchandising, global sourcing, and trends, design, and product development to develop, implement, and adapt merchandising strategies
  • Develops relationships, negotiates, and leverages the Lowe’s brand with vendors to ensure availability, timely delivery, and competitive pricing of merchandise
  • Enables and promotes an inclusive and diverse team and working environment


  • Bachelor’s Degree
    in a business-related field or 5 years’ experience in merchandising, marketing,or retail strategy
  • 10+ years leadership or consulting experience within a high volume business
  • 10+ years in the retail industry (direct or indirect) with specific expertise in merchandising functions
