The Demand Planner is primarily responsible for performing the demand forecasting and assortment planning duties for an assigned merchandise in order to ensure that operational sales forecasts are as accurate as possible and support service level and inventory objectives of the division, covering approximately $2 to $3 billion in sales and $500 to $700 million in inventory. The operational sales forecast drives customer service levels in stores, orders in the stores and DCs (Distribution Center), and all planning activity including forecasts to vendors, DC capacity analysis, DC hiring and transportation resource planning.

The Demand Planner will also have primary responsibility with providing data to and executing output from the Product Line Review (PLR) process. This includes providing advice on the sales inputs to the Product Line Review (PLR) process as well as incorporating the results of that process into the operational sales forecast, so that forecasts and orders can be generated to plan for and execute the line review. The product line reviews are a primary source of sales, margin and inventory improvements for the supported merchandise division.

To accomplish this, the Demand Planner must utilize his/her expertise on demand planning concepts as well as use advanced demand planning systems.

The Demand Planner will collaborate directly with Merchandising, Logistics, and Inventory teams in order to support forecast accuracy and assortment plans.

Essential Responsibilities:

Performs Demand Planning sales forecast management by executing sales forecast activities to achieve forecast accuracy, in-stock, safety stock, and inventory efficiency goals; applying expertise in the use of demand planning tools and applying it to the category; demonstrating a clear understanding of the in-stock and inventory goals of the team; anticipating risks to mitigate impact to key metrics; validating annualized sales estimate resulting from PLR decisions; ensuring initialization of store/item level forecast; tracking and communicating new item forecast accuracy to proforma expectation and recommending changes based on early read analysis and trend analysis; executing promotion and lift analysis to drive business objectives of each promotion within the operational systems as detailed in the marketing plan; cleansing sales history and entering forecast overrides to accurately depict seasonal changes, weather impact, vendor failure, supply disruptions, promotions, etc. to drive appropriate inventory levels to DCs and stores; analyzing Demand Classification recommendations to adjust statistical parameters; adjusting the operational sales forecast to agree with the financial sales forecast so the forecasts drive inventory appropriately; supporting successful product transition plans, managing seasonal profiles, product linking and exit strategies; proactively communicating to the Demand Planning Manager on forecast status, actions taken, accuracy misses and root cause through use of standard Demand Planning analysis (e.g., region bias reports, region charts), and team communication vehicles

Ensures accurate assortment planning process by supporting PLR activities and achieving forecast accuracy that support inventory allocation and sales plan goals; demonstrating a clear understanding of Merchandising’s category strategy through the determination of inputs for store groupings and assortment planning to support their business area; developing product line review discontinued item list for markdown optimization and demand operational systems; ensuring that forecast depicts business strategy and objectives using an understanding of Product Line Review (PLR) and assortment planning process; ensuring alignment between initial sales forecasts and proforma; interpreting PLR decisions and incorporating into operational sales forecast management; executing go forward assortment forecast for all items needed to support the PLR process

Provides exceptional service and relationship management by providing ad-hoc data analysis on forecasts in many forms for many purposes on how to solve the problem, summarize and present results; assisting others in learning new tools and best practices; performing ad hoc or customized team-level analysis proactively to add business value for the business category

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Statistics or related field
•2 years of experience in Supply Chain, Merchandising or related filed OR Master’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or Analytics fields
• Solid proficiency in MS-Excel and other MS-Office related tools
• Demonstrated experience working in a cross-functional team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Forecasting, Replenishment Planning, Assortment Planning or Inventory Management experience in a high volume industry
• Understanding and experience working with forecasting and replenishment systems (INFOREM, JDA Demand, Oracle, SAP)
• Experience in assortment planning tools and processes and knowledge of JDA Efficient Item Assortment/Assortment Optimization (EIA/AO)
• Advanced skills with Access and Excel
