Purpose of the Role:
The primary purpose of this role is to lead the design and development of market leading Home decor products that are sold under one of the Lowe's Private Bands. This position is responsible developing and executing a comprehensive and consistent point of view on style and design for their respective room category that will encompass trend, product, and experiential elements to provide compelling solutions for the customer. To accomplish this, the manager must deliver a customer-centric decor experience through curated, holistic solutions in support of Holistic Style by managing people, process, and prioritization of workload. This role leads teams through works streams to meet customer, business needs and timelines by translating decor strategy and customer insights into recommended actions, programs, and initiatives that are clearly understood and activated upon by the organization and product manufacturers.




Responsibility Statements:
• Delivers product design programs in alignment with strategic customer preferences and brand guidelines (style, quality, price) by interpreting research into meaningful solutions for the customer at a higher theme/visual display level as well as how the research translates to product; determining how categories interact within the room view based on trend curve and how consumers rank style significance; evaluating workload and managing resources by determining level of team involvement per project/initiative, which may range from guidance and consultation of style direction with vendors to proprietary product development; driving collaboration and integration with the business to achieve visual appeal and perception of choice for decor product programs and collections; evaluating room and category recommendations from an internal standpoint (adoption) and an external standpoint (performance in market) and continually monitoring and adjusting as needed; exploring best practices, both inside and outside the industry, and recommending potential new approaches and processes


• Builds effective teams by attracting, motivating, and retaining talent; recruiting and managing teams of individual contributors; developing subject matter expertise and overall capability with a high performing, in-house design team; obtaining and aligning external and internal resources and focusing his/her team on highest priorities


• Pursues professional growth and provides developmental opportunities for others by soliciting and acting on performance feedback; building collaborative, cross-functional relationships; hiring, training, and developing talent for growth opportunities; delegating tasks and decisions; fostering open dialogue among team members; working closely with employees to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to drive performance improvement


• Manages designated work stream to meet customer and business needs by translating business plans into tactical action items; communicating goals and objectives; overseeing work assignments; aligning team efforts; building accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; identifying and addressing improvement opportunities; assuming responsibility for decision making






Required Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Design or related field plus 7 years of experience in trend or design
• 10 years of experience with increasing responsibility in product design and development
• 5 years of experience synthesizing trends and communicating to key stakeholders and/or designing and developing products in the home or consumer products industry
• 3 years of experience and proficiency in 2D graphical software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite)
• 2 years of experience designing décor product for commercial or mass-market consumption
• 2 years of experience direct/indirect leadership of design resources and primary accountability for complex, cross-functional design programs
• Demonstrated knowledge of current, future, and historical interior and home design trends
• Portfolio of work required




Preferred Experience:
• 2 years of experience working with trend agencies preferably in decor or fashion industries
• 1 year of experience working within or with US retailers
