PURPOSE OF ROLE
The primary purpose of this role is to build and maintain Unix systems to support business requirements. Unix encompasses both AIX and Linux Operating systems. This role supports all environments from Proof of Concept to Production and everything in between for multiple business units.

RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENTS
• Able to support both AIX and Linux Operating systems
• Provides recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for infrastructure systems designs
• Collaborates with architects and software engineers to ensure functional specifications are converted into flexible, scalable, and maintainable designs
• Writes and reviews clear technical specifications and documentation
• Able to develop and modify existing bash scripts to automate repetitive tasks
• Develops and validates system design prototypes
• Works with senior team members to provide recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for infrastructure systems designs
• Participate 24*7 in on call rotation
• Works with other IT teams to review test results and revise Operating System configurations as appropriate
• Provides support for functionality tests as needed, working with IT teams to
to find solutions
• Uphold policy and procedures and educate other IT teams as appropriate
• Facilitates the implementation and maintenance of Unix systems by developing and documenting detailed standards (e.g., guidelines, processes, procedures)

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field
• 2+ years of experience in an IT support environment with technical experience in distributed technologies and systems development. Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• 1+ years of experience with Unix build methodologies, performance tuning, memory management, server maintenance and troubleshooting.
• 1+ years of basic familiarity with virtualization concepts such as VMware or IBM LPARs
• 1+ years of experience providing hands-on support and troubleshooting for physical hardware HP-Unix and familiarity with ILOs to be able to configure Linux physicals
• 2+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
• Master's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field
• 2+ years of experience leading technical or project teams with or without direct reports
• 1+ year(s) of work experience in an IT role requiring interaction with senior management (i.e., Director level or higher)
• 2+ years of experience working with third party IT vendors and/or systems solution providers
• 2+ years of IT experience in the retail industry
• 2+ years of experience writing technical documentation in an infrastructure development environment
