Program Overview

The Lowe’s Finance& Accounting Rotational (FAR) Program is an exciting and unique opportunityfor recent & upcoming college graduates to gain a broader experience withinthe Finance, Accounting and Internal Audit areas. The program consists of four6-month rotations with different groups in these areas, in our Mooresville,North Carolina corporate office location. Participants are encouraged toexercise independent judgment, provide direction and assistance to key clientgroups and/or meaningful projects, recommend solutions that maximizeoperational efficiency, and develop teamwork and leadership skills throughinteractive projects and activities. Upon successful completion of thistwenty-four month rotational program, the participant will be eligible to beplaced into open positions within the Finance and Internal Audit departments ofthe company based on his/her interests and individual performance.

Possible areas oflearning

Internal Audit

• Gain exposure toInternal Audit’s value drivers such as assessing enterprise risks, developingand maintaining the rolling audit plan and governance responsibilities

• Participate on avariety of different audit topics that may include finance / operational / ITprocess audits, traditional compliance audits, or in-flight reviews that assessorganizational readiness for emerging strategic initiatives

• Experience theinternal audit methodology and develop foundational skills such projectmanagement, risk assessment techniques, analytical and root cause analysis, andgeneral professional soft skills


• Assist in thepreparation and filing of tax returns and tax payment process related toproperty, customs, income, sales and use, and payroll taxes

• Provide support tointernational, federal, and state income and sales tax audits

• Identify tax creditopportunities and collaborate with other finance teams and business units tocollect information and documents and evaluate Lowe’s eligibility for taxcredits

• Provide solutionsthat maximize operational efficiency, minimize costs and maintain a highstandard of compliance

Financial Planning& Analysis (FP&A)

• Gain anunderstanding of performance measures and financial systems

• Gain anunderstanding of key financial and analytical concepts

• Gain anunderstanding of the sales, margin and expense forecast process

• Gain anunderstanding of business case development using discounted cash flow valuationtechniques

• Gain anunderstanding of the annual operating plan and how specific initiatives havebeen incorporated

• Gain anunderstanding of Lowe’s consolidated financial forecast and planning process

Corporate Accounting

• Perform financial analysis and closing responsibilities

• Assist in the domestic and international financial reporting processes

• Record and report internal and external financial information inconformity with GAAP and SEC regulations

• Draft accounting policies and procedures as a result of the evaluationof emerging accounting guidance and new business transactions

Margin and CostAccounting

• Experience thedifferent groups within Margin Accounting: vendor funds accounting, program administration,reporting, and compliance, auditing and training

• Work closely withmerchants, vendors, and other departments both within and outside of Finance,to ensure all vendor funded programs are documented, tracked, and properlyrecorded

• Ensure productcosts and margins are accurately stated and adequate supporting documentationis provided by Lowe’s merchants and vendors

• Work with Lowe’ssupply chain, Global Sourcing entities and manufacturing operations to ensuretheir proper accounting and performance tracking, tracked, and properlyrecorded

Education and/orExperience

•Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting with expected graduation date of December 2017 or May 2018

•Minimum 3.0cumulative GPA is required

•Proficient in MSOffice Programs (specifically Word, Excel and Access)

•Stronginterpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills are required

•Candidates must alsopossess excellent oral and written communication skills

•Relevant internshipand retail experience is a plus, as is experience in a leadership position atwork or within a campus organization
